Baking Mad
I like to consider myself a fairly decent amateur cook; in particular, I quite enjoy baking cakes and biscuits and things. However, since I am pretty much continually on a diet right now (trying to lose weight when you’re unable to exercise is not fun), I don’t get all that much opportunity to.
So, for the second year running, I’ve made a load of gingerbread which I’ve been giving to people for Christmas. Last year I did a couple of gingerbread houses; they were great fun, but I don’t really have the steadiest hand, so they turned out a little ramshackle. This year, I’ve just focused on biscuits.
I made the first batch a month or so ago, for mailing to a few friends abroad. I mostly kept those pretty simple, as I used my newest toy to vacuum pack them, and the pressure was kind’ve brutal on iced decorations. Earlier today, I made a second batch for people a little closer to home, and because I don’t have to worry about the delay while they get shipped off abroad, I was able to have a little more fun with decorating them.
Thoroughly knackered now, and it’s probably going to take me a week to clear up the kitchen, but what the hell; it was good fun, and I’m pretty pleased with how they all turned out.
